Term 1 Week 4 (Wed) - 3E1 A Maths (Factor Thm)

Recapped Factor Thm with class. Students have forgotten the basic concept after the long CNY break. Class especially quiet today. Went through one practice question that combines remainder and factor thm. This question acutally got the class going since I told the class it resembles mid year exam question. Also introduced how to factorise a higher power polynomials by listing down the detailed steps. This helped the students to remember the techniques better. Seems like this class preferred step by step instructions and not self-discovery. There is a need to train the class on how to copy and build up their own study notes.

  1. This strategy of step by step instructions seems to work with my 3E2 pupils as well. Seems like these 2 classes of pupils prefer more structured lessons.

Just to share with you: I made my 3E2 pupils to keep a notebook which they must copy down specific notes and examples in it. I will always go round the class to check that everyone has their A Math notebook on their table at the beginning of the lesson and I give them time to copy down the notes and examples that I wrote on the board before giving them the rest of the time to do exercises. You may want to insist on something like this with your class.

  2. Hwee Hwee,

I have a A.Math notebook too. What happens when students keep repeating to bring their notebooks and copy in foolscap papers which are promptly lost?
